Looking back through the archives this week, I realised it’s over 10 years since I published my first ever blog post (July 2013 in case you were wondering). That said, if you download my free blogging checklist, you’ll notice I originally thought it was 2014.
I had absolutely no idea what I was doing back then, and knew nothing about search engine optimisation. I simply wanted to write and share my thoughts, so set up a free WordPress site and talked about random things that came into my head – and they were random!
My first post is definitely not my best piece of work 😂
It’s around 12 sentences long and doesn’t go anywhere. It’s not adding any E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust) and it honestly cannot be described as helpful content. But, if you’d like a laugh, here’s the link: A new lease of life
I’ve kept those early blog posts on my website both for nostalgia and to show readers / potential clients that I was once in the same place. I’ve been where you are, not having a clue what all the technical jargon meant or how to structure a blog post.
But, by getting started, I realised how much I loved writing (and I thankfully got much better at writing blog posts). Importantly, I also discovered how much I love the technical process behind writing content. So I went on webinars, I devoured articles, I learned from the experts, and I honed my skills.
I also invested a hefty amount of cash on SEO training, and I grew my outdoor website to over 17K views in 2023. Since making the decision last year to write more content on this website, views are steadily growing here too.
Even so, I still draw a blank sometimes when it comes to thinking of new blog topics. Ironically, I came up with the idea for this post while searching online for inspiration!
